Making My Own Chili Seasoning Mix

My family wanted chili the other night when it was really cold.  One problem, I didn't have any chili seasoning packets.

So off to the internet...

I found a few that looked promising on a web site called Easy-Homemade-Recipes.com.

 I tried this one:

Best Chili Seasoning Mix

1/4 cup all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons chili powder
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
1 tablespoon dried, minced garlic
2 teaspoons white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a bowl, stir together flour, chili powder, red pepper, onion, garlic, sugar, cumin, parsley, salt, basil and pepper. Store in an airtight container.

Use 2 T of mix for 1 pound of ground beef, 1 can of tomato sauce, 1 can of diced tomatoes and/or one can of kidney beans. (double this for 2 pounds of meat).

The boys loved it!  I think this is a keeper!  I have been finding more things that I can make instead of buying them.  I am working on not only reducing my families grocery budget, but our dependency on buying what we can make, grow, or do ourselves!

I'll be adding more things that we are doing to be more self sufficient and budget minded!!

  1. I love it when I can make something myself rather than buy it. It is usually better too :) I never thought about making my own seasoning mix. It does sound really good. Thank you for sharing this one.
